چکیده
When building geotechnical constructions like retaining walls and dams is of interest, one the most important factors to consider soil’s shear strength parameters. This study makes an effort propose a novel predictive model strength. The implements extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) technique coupled with powerful optimization algorithm, salp swarm algorithm (SSA), predict various soils. To do this, database consisting 152 sets data prepared where (τ) soil considered as output some index tests (e.g., dry unit weight, water content, plasticity index) are set inputs. designed tuned using both effective parameters XGBoost SSA, accurate introduced in this study. prediction performance SSA-XGBoost assessed based on coefficient determination (R2) variance account for (VAF). Overall, obtained values R2 VAF (0.977 0.849) (97.714% 84.936%) training testing sets, respectively, confirm workability developed forecasting investigate generalization, tested another 30 (validation data). validation results 0.805) suggest proposed model. findings that when cannot be determined directly, hybrid XGBoost-SSA can utilized assess parameter.

Shear Strength of Soil
One of the most important and the most controversial engineering properties of soil is its shear strength or ability to resist sliding along internal surfaces within a mass. The stability of a cut, the slope of an earth dam, the foundations of structures, the natural slopes of hillsides and other structures built on soil depend upon the shearing resistance offered by the soil along the probable...
متن کاملExperimental Study on the Effect of Crumb Rubber on Shear Strength of Sandy Soil
Nowadays, soil reinforcement using polymer elements have been investigated by a number of researchers in order to increase the load capacity of soils. Reinforcing soils using fibers is a method of soil improvement, which offers a homogenous mixture in combination with soils, regarding their tensile strength. This combination maintains pressure loading capacity and properties in mutual resistant...
متن کاملShear Strength of a Soil Containing Vegetation Roots
Vegetation can signiˆcantly contribute to stabilise sloping terrain by reinforcing the soil: this reinforcement depends on the morphological characteristics of the root systems and the tensile strength of single roots. This paper describes an investigation on the reinforcing eŠect of soil-root matrix in the laboratory using a modiˆed large shear box apparatus (300 mm×300 mm). Four diŠerent spec...
متن کاملNumerical investigation on the pullout shear strength of soil-nail interface using finite element method
Soil nailing is a popular reinforcement method for stabilizing slopes, excavations, and retaining walls in many countries. The pullout capacity of the soil-nail interface is a critical parameter for the design and safety assessment of soil-nailed systems. In this paper, a three-dimensional (3D) finite element (FE) model is developed using the commercial program ABAQUS to simulate the pullout te...
متن کاملMicromechanics of soil responses in cyclic simple shear tests
Offshore wind turbine (OWT) foundations are subjected to a combination of cyclic and dynamic loading arising from wind, wave, rotor and blade shadowing. Under cyclic loading, most soils change their characteristics including stiffness, which may cause the system natural frequency to approach the loading frequency and lead to unplanned resonance and system damage or even collapse. To investigate...
